Welcome to the Rotary Club of Pangbourne which meets every Monday evening,  7.30 for 8.00 - except Bank Holidays - at the George Hotel, The Square, Pangbourne. Our President, Jim Skinner, always enjoys the company of visitors, so if you would like to come along to one of our meetings - even if you are not a Rotarian - please feel free to contact our  Secretary, Dick Hoskins.

To Reach the George Hotel exit the M4 at Junction 12 and take the A4 towards Newbury. At the 2nd roundabout take the 3rd exit - signposted A340 Pangbourne - then over the M4, through Tidmarsh and into Pangbourne. At the mini-roundabout turn right, signposted Reading, and the George Hotel is 50 yards on the left.

Pangbourne itself is a Thames-side village, the meadows being in a conservation area. Its main claim to fame is having been the home of Kenneth Graham, author of 'Wind in the Willows'. There is a main line railway station linking it to the town of Reading (5 miles), and we are also not far from Newbury (12 miles) and Oxford (20 miles).

The Rotary Club of Pangbourne was Chartered in 1989 and currently enjoys the company of 25 members. Our main annual fundraising events include a Paintings Exhibition, Golf Day, Dragon Boat Race on the Thames and a Bowlathon. Currently the club raises about £10,000 per annum for mainly local charities, predominantly for the disabled, both old and young.

Recently we have supported the local branch of Resource; Samaritans; National Deaf Children's Society; Purley Park Trust (residence for adults with learning disabilities) minibus appeal; Brookfield School (for handicapped children) sensory playroom; Living Paintings Trust (children with severe sight problems); Battle Hospital Cardiac Unit; Naomi House Hospice for terminally ill children; sent youngsters on outward bound courses and many more such causes.

The Club is also very proud of the popularity of the annual Senior Citizens' Party for local residents that we started about seven years ago; the event is normally held in January in Pangbourne. We also support local schools with an annual programme of Mock Interviews for senior pupils and - jointly with Caversham Rotary Club - an annual Youth Speaks public speaking competition for local schools.

So, as you can see, we are a very friendly, active Club and we would be delighted to see you next time you are in the neighbourhood - just call our Club Secretary whose telephone number can be found in the District or national directory for further details.
